Stop the unauthorized use of water at your business, home, or apartment building.

As a home watch professional I see this on many occasions.
New construction up and running next to your home or on your street, the lawn maintenance worker needs water to wash their hands or fill their weed sprayers, or the neighbor decides to use your spigot to fill his pool or wash his patio. This outdoor hose bib faucet lock prevents unwanted use or tampering, reduces water waste and leakage and provides piece of mind especially to a home owner who is away on vacation. When a home is vacant and unattended, keeping costly repairs and high energy expenses down is important. This Hose Bib Lock requires very little maintenance. Occasionally, the padlock should be removed, cleaned and lubricated. This is more important if you leave the lock on for a long time in areas that are particularly dirty, where grit or oxidation can make the lock difficult to open. Faucet locks cost anywhere from $8.00 to $25.00 The outdoor hose bib lock comes with a plastic cap fitting any standard 3/4-inch hose bib or faucet. That cap is encompassed by a heavy duty metal casing locked together by a brass padlock.

Being an owner of any business is rewarding, challenging, difficult and exciting. You hope to be successful, you pray for your business to be profitable and you wake up each day with the attitude of winning the trust and relationship of your customers and learn the value of your employees. Of course there is way more to it than that. Don’t leave me on the “hanger” here!

Hiring the right employee is a very important factor and a challenging process when running your business. It’s a positive impact on the total work environment.

Creating a checklist for hiring an employee will help you systematize your process.

Effective background checks are one of the most important steps. One that may be neglected due to the simple fact that “the show must go on” The business must run, somehow. This kind of thinking can send you out the EXIT door as a business owner.

The background checks must include work references, educational credentials, employment references and actual jobs held, and most important, criminal history. How can you find a job when you have a criminal record? It's certainly not easy.
Not only can a criminal record impact your employability, but the time out of the workforce is an additional challenge when seeking employment.

For the safety of your employees, customers and business don’t wait for it to happen to you.

Be aware of the volume of what your business can handle based on the successful hiring of the right team. Understanding that if a potential employee is not truthful on a job application, it can disqualify them from employment and could be terminated in the future - not necessarily because of what was found, but because they were dishonest when they applied.

FINGERPRINTING has helped us in many ways, but does not solve the employment problems. It eliminates some applications from attempting to hit the cutting room floor, but the problem still exists. The concern for theft on the job in a customer’s home is crucial, vital, essential and consequential.  After all of your hiring tactics, background search, interviews and essential choices for candidates, you have reached the critical point of who will get the job? Will you be confident the person you hire could be trusted; will they be able to accept the appropriate training? Every job task is different. Will they be able to grow, develop and adapt to the new challenges? Will they be a team player and rise to the advantages of bonuses and higher pay availabilities with all of their hard work and efforts?

Some may say housekeeping, cleaning or janitorial work is for the uneducated. You will never find what you are looking for no matter how hard you try.Additionally, this career path tends to be one of high turnover.  NOT TRUE, I say…….There is real, true satisfaction in this job position. You must be a highly motivated person with attention to detail, honest and reliable, self-motivated and dedicated. You must be able to follow tasks, direction, make decisions based on safety. This position is physical and demanding and that makes housekeeping one of the most needed services for home owners.

In conclusion, if being a housekeeper, home watch or home manager is the business of choice, increasing your home owner satisfaction rate and employment hiring skills should be the most important factor. Running a housekeeping business has to be at the top of your list as a manager or operator. By recognizing common weaknesses and churning out potential issues on the spot, and bringing unmistakable challenges to the forefront of your housekeeping team this business might be for you.

I love fake or artificial foods such as grapes, breads, and pastries. Even as a young girl I had a plastic container full that I now share with my grand children. Good quality artificial foods are fun to stage... around the house. Maybe inside an antique country cabinet or above a wine shelf.
I even have a basket hanging above the sink with carrots, celery, onions and mushrooms. Just can't get enough. Designer homes and homes for sale sometimes stage rooms to make them appear more welcoming.

Not to many people are thrilled about cleaning with ammonia. They just can't tolerate the harsh smell. I have to say I always keep a bottle in my cleaning bucket and here are some of the tasks ammonia can contribute to a real good clean and shine.

1. Garbage cans
2. Faces of white cabinets, doors, baseboards, woodwork
3. Crystal and add a dash of soap
4. Bathtubs
5. Ceiling fans

Ammonia can be a good all purpose when diluted safely.
Experiment on other areas using caution.

I'm such a picky and meticulous housekeeper that I alway make sure the carpet tags are tucked under when I put the carpets back, but some days I get so frustrated with such a petty task. I ask myself why my customers just don't cut them off!! Give me the scissors already!!!!

Oriental rugs are commonly made from cotton and wool and are showcased in many colors and designs.

As a housekeeper and home manager it is important for all of us to remember how to care for such a beautiful hand-made item. Some carpets are actually handed down from generation to generation as they could be very costly, valuable and have a long history in the making. Caring for the carpet fringe is something not only the housekeepers, but the home owners should take into careful consideration. The photo shows great wear on this particular carpet and will not have much value at all if sold.

The fringe of the carpet is important as fraying and tearing could diminish the value of the carpet for resale or trade so keep them clean and never run the vacuum over the fringe or pull the fringe in any way. If you are vacuuming stay away from the fringe and raise the vacuum to a higher level to avoid pulling the main carpet areas. To care for the fringe you can use a little ammonia and water, carefully blotting and tapping dry with a clean cloth, then repeating with a little vinegar and water. Use a plastic bag or large towel so you do not wet the floor underneath the carpet. Allow the fringe to sit on the dry towel until fully dry. Carefully comb out the fringe with a large tooth comb.

Oriental carpets continue to be known as a luxury and praised for their color, design, style and history.
To determine their value you can turn the carpet over and examine the knots that are tied together. They are known as Turkish or Persian knots. The closer the knots, the higher the value. The carpet may also be tribal which means they are made by specific tribes often with ceremonial designs or colors. They will be marked with a tribal name. They are highly valuable because they were never meant to leave the tribe and are a prize for collectors. Paisley patterns are viewed as bringing good fortune in Asia and therefore elevating the value. For more information email mynapleshomeservices

Since there will be a significant amount of cleanup after your renovations are complete, take care when inquiring on estimates to include cleanup fees in your renovation budget. Wait until the bid is final, then ask if the total number includes contractor cleanup. DO NOT ask this question before or the contractor may raise the price. Some contractors will NOT cleanup after their project which leaves YOU to the surprise of that awful mess!
My Naples Home Services
After the proposal is submitted and the home owner is ready to accept it, ask if the total includes cleanup. This will not allow the contractor to change his price. It is typically set in stone. If he does, he stands a chance of losing the job. He now knows you expect his company to lightly clean the first layer of dust, sweep or vacuum the floors and return the home to an acceptable appeal.
If he does not provide this service you will want to consider hiring a housekeeper to help you clean OR look for another contractor.
As a home manager I have seen this way to many times.
The contractor can't wait to get the job done, collect and move on to the next job. Owner beware! For more information email [email protected]

Nespresso Machines Pros and Cons

Nespresso Machines
Pros and Cons
While looking for that perfect gift for my daughter for her birthday or simply a coffee lover at heart, the Nespresso coffee machine may be the ideal solution.
From Expresso to cappuccino, Nespresso coffee makers “stir” controversy and calculated opinions both with competitive, scale tipping pros and cons.
While investigating the purchase of the capsules I discovered without warning from the salesman that the Nespresso coffee capsules can only be purchased from Nespresso company which can sometimes put you in a bind if you are having a dinner party and the coffee refills were accidently not on the grocery list. The website allows you to only purchase quantities of 50 at a time.
Advertised with many designs and features from sleek to modern, high tech, retro and sophisticated. Price ranging from $199.00 to $699.00 Accessories available including milk frother creating a light creamy hot or cold milk froth starting at $99.00
1. The machine is low maintenance
2. No mess,no noise, no grinding
3. Capsules have the same amount of coffee each time
4. Always consistent and enjoyable, silky and smooth tasting
1. Environmentally unfriendly by people’s choice
2.The capsules prove to be a waste and recycling still not perfected
3. The cost, $.60 to$.70 cents per capsule depending on flavor
4. The coffee costs a bit more than whole beans or pre-ground coffee
5. Can only be purchased from Nespresso, arrives in just a few days when ordered online.Shipping fee added to purchase. Can be up to $6.95
6. Nespresso quotes that their machine brews with accurate water temperature, pressure and always the same degree of humidity (0%) in every capsule. Some of this is correct, although most of the time the coffee is not hot enough especially if you add cream and froth. You almost need to add hot water and brew again.
7. Some try to save the environment by cleaning and refilling the capsule, but this proves to be time consuming and not much fun.
With all this said, I will admit I do love my Nespresso machine. I purchased the “Pixie”and our family is enjoying every minute and every cup. We are learning to deal with the pros and cons and order our coffee capsules before they run out so we have them all the time. We are not big coffee drinkers, but it is a pleasure to entertain the thought of that yummy delicious sensation of a smooth, delightful cappuccino at any time of day.

Shining a Fiberglass Playground Slide

Shining a Fiberglass Playground Slide
While setting up a playground with slide for my own grandchildren we noticed the slide was a bit rough and not enough “slide power” for the toddlers. Recommendations will advise to maintain a dull and faded slide wash with soap and water to remove dirt and grime, rinse with clean water. Polish with compound and buff out to improve appearance, repel dirt and slow fading. Since our slide was new and right out of the box we just needed a little “push”.
It was as easy as 1, 2, and 3 by using a little Swiffer Dust & Shine and a soft cloth.
I love this stuff and use it for a few cleaning projects.
This procedure is only recommended by opinion. Playgrounds are a great way to share quality time with your children, but following safety precautions are a must to avoid accidents and injury. Insure there is always an adult present as the slide will be slippery, but most of all just have fun.

Knee Pads for Work

Knee Pads
Work safety is important and when it comes to physically demanding jobs such as housekeeping, gardening and other tasks we must listen to our bodies and be aware of how we lift, bend, stretch and pull. Occasionally, washing baseboards are on our list of tasks for the day and spending time on our hands and knees is required so we always keep a set of ladies knee pads handy.
They are a big help and your knees will thank you.
